- Prior to the retreat a brief orientation will be provided on retreat etiquette and practice.
- Please wear comfortable clothing of neutral colors. Do not wear inappropriate, revealing clothing.
- Coats, backpacks, food etc. are not permitted in the meditation hall. Please remove all shoes and hats or head coverings before entering the meditation hall.
- Cell phones are not permitted in the meditation hall. Cell phone use should be strictly limited during the retreat. If you need to make or receive an important call, please do so out of the sight and sound of the other retreatants.
- Refrain from using perfumes, colognes or scented toiletries.
- The use of laptop computers is limited only to the designated areas.
- Small personal items such as glasses, tissues etc., should be kept in you pocket or under your cushion while in the meditation hall.
- No pets, radios, alcohol or illicit drugs are allowed on the Dharma Center’s property.
- No smoking on the Dharma Center’s property, except in the designated areas.
- Please refrain from boisterous socializing and maintain noble silence whenever possible.
- If you need to use the rest room during meditation, please wait until walking meditation, and discreetly exit as you pass the door. Re-enter just as unobtrusively.
- Please open and close all doors quietly.
- After meditation, please straighten up all the cushions or return them to the closet, and leave the meditation hall as neat and orderly as when you entered it.
- Treat all dharma materials with respect. Please do not put them on the bare floor.
- Remember that being courteous, respectful, and polite is mindfulness practice.
- Keep in mind the five basic precepts:
- Refrain from killing
- Refrain from stealing
- Refrain from sexual misconduct
- Refrain from malicious or false speech
- Refrain from the use of intoxicants
